Farewell
On Saturday afternoon she came and sat on my lap for an unusually long time. I know now that it was her farewell to me, her last gift, for when she left my lap she curled up in her favorite spot and refused to get up for food, water or love. She died of end-stage renal failure, and we were stunned. She had shown no signs whatsoever of discomfort or distress.
She was with us for 18 years and I will miss her more than I can say. She has been my constant companion, always ready for a snuggle, a tummy rub, a walk in the woods or a game of hide and seek.
Goodbye, my sweet friend, sleep well.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that but happy for that last snuggle and her peaceful parting.
I'm so sorry Pam! This kind of pain is horrible.
I love you and am sending warm hugs.

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. Heart hugs coming your way.
Oh nooooooo! How are you feeling now that a few days have passed? Are you getting a new kitty or is it too soon?
That is so sad ... saying goodbye to a cat friend after so many years is heart wrenching. Luckily, Hattie mustn't have been suffering if she was not showing signs of renal failure. Hazel, my cat of 17 years, died of this and the last few months were tough. Funnily, I still catch glimpses of her when I'm gardening.
You may find the same thing with Hattie ... our cats stay with us forever.
I hope there is a heaven for all our precious pets. They so deserve it. I'm sorry to hear this sad news.
It is so sad to lose a friend you've had for such a long time. My heart goes out to you. Your warm and fond memories will help to sooth your pain.
What a beautiful parting gesture! You tell the story so well, almost as if there is an equal balance between grief and acceptance. You two must have had a deep friendship. She was a lucky cat to have chosen you as a companion for life.
Oh Pam, I'm sorry to hear this. We lost a beloved cat at 20 to renal failure. She was my constant companion. I know how much you must be grieving now.
Pam--I am so sorry. It is quite amazing how cats (and dogs) give us these gifts--of their love, of their comfort, and of their goodbyes.
Oh dear. They leave such a huge hole in our hearts, don't they? These little furry beings...
I am sorry she died but happy that you had many years together
and who knows, perhaps she is coming back as a tiger????
Pam, I am so very sorry to learn of Hattie's passing. I so understand how much she will be missed. Their wee lives are far too short yet the love she gave is your forever gift. ((hugs))
