Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

Thanksgiving always brings to mind the memories of going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I went with my grandfather in the late 40's and sat on his shoulders so that I would not miss a single band, float or balloon. It was not as lavish then but as I watch it on TV today with all the pomp, stars and entertainment, I find myself longing for simpler times. Back then, Santa really was the star of the parade.

When I lived in NY City we used to go the day before the parade and watch them set up the floats and the big balloon characters. Lots of fun and more festive than on the actual day of the parade.

Well, when I was a kid, the parade was always on TV... right before football! Hey, it WAS Los Angeles. LOL

Peace,

That is a beautiful shot. I totally relate to the "way it was" feeling. I am 36, but things have changed so much even since I was 16 - everything is so technological now. In a nod to simpler times, you should check out Brocantehome.com. If I've given you that link in the past, my apologies. My brain has become turkey mush. Many blessings to you again!

I'm not much for crowds, but I make an exception for a parade. There is something so magical about them. Those huge figures, and pageantry, and the energy. It is permission to be transported. Thanks for that photo.
